Does insurance cover EECP? Do you accept it?

Two separate questions, with two separate answers. On coverage: Medicare formally covers EECP for chronic stable angina under National Coverage Determination 20.20, and most commercial insurers follow Medicare's lead. For other indications — heart failure, long COVID, post-intervention symptoms, cognitive decline — coverage is variable to unlikely. On our policy: we operate exclusively cash-pay and do not accept insurance reimbursement — and we do not provide receipts or documentation for patients to submit to their insurer. We operate under Florida's cash-pay exception, which allows us to provide services outside the insurance billing system without being licensed as a health clinic. This is a deliberate structural choice that keeps our practice nimble, keeps pricing transparent, and lets us treat off-label indications where insurance wouldn't pay regardless.

What does it cost?

We don't publish a single price because there isn't one — cost depends on whether you're doing this alone or with a partner, coming to us or having us come to you, and whether you're part of a local group. Most patients end up in the middle of our range because we actively help structure treatment to lower cost (two-a-day protocols, couples pricing, cluster activation). How long does a full course take?

The standard protocol is 35 hours — one hour a day, five days a week, for seven weeks. The two-a-day option compresses it to under three weeks. The 35-hour number comes from the original research protocols; it's a floor that defines a legitimate treatment course, not a biological ceiling. Some patients continue to benefit from additional sessions.

What does a session feel like?

Firm, rhythmic pressure around your calves, thighs, and hips, timed to your heartbeat. The first 10 minutes take getting used to. By the third or fourth session most people find it easy — some read, some watch TV, some fall asleep. You're fully clothed on a comfortable table. No recovery time afterward.

Is this really happening in my home?

Yes. The equipment is portable. We bring it to you, set up in a bedroom or living room, run the treatment with the same monitoring and clinical rigor as a clinic visit, and break down when the session's done. Most patients need about 8 feet of clear space and a standard power outlet. We walk you through all of it on the intake call.

What if I'm far from Melbourne?

Three options: (1) join your area's waitlist and we activate when we have a local cluster — this is how most of our South Florida patients get treated; (2) stay-and-treat retreat, where you come to us and complete the course in under three weeks; (3) for further-flung patients we handle arrangements case-by-case. What conditions does EECP treat?

EECP was originally FDA-cleared for chronic stable angina, and that remains the most established indication. The evidence has expanded significantly to include heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, post-cardiac intervention recovery, peripheral artery disease, long COVID vascular and autonomic dysfunction, and cognitive decline associated with reduced cerebral blood flow. The Renew NCP-5 machine we use also carries a specific FDA clearance for increasing VO₂ max and improving blood flow in healthy patients — the only ECP system in the U.S. with that clearance, which makes it uniquely suited for preventive use.

Can my spouse or partner do EECP at the same time?

Yes — and we actively encourage it. When two people go through a 35-hour course together, the results are often better for both of them: higher completion rates, earlier noticed improvements, and a shared experience that tends to reinforce the lifestyle changes that make EECP's benefits last. Is EECP safe?

EECP has been studied in thousands of patients over more than three decades. The most common side effects are mild skin irritation from the cuffs and occasional muscle soreness, particularly in the first few sessions. Serious adverse events are rare. There are contraindications — including certain arrhythmias, aortic regurgitation, and active deep vein thrombosis — which is why the intake process includes clinical screening. We review your history carefully before treatment begins.
